How To Scale On Sketchup

how to scale on sketchup
what is appropriate for 3d + 360?

if I wanted to make a website in which the user can have a 3 dimensional, 360degree view of an object, controlled by the mouse…

Sort of like those avatar websites ( http://secondlife.com & http://www.frenzoo.com/beta/ )
but on a much more basic scale like say, google sketchup (i don’t want to make avatars)

would that be flash? java?
Would this perhaps take the help of a game designer or animator to accomplish?
if so, how/why?
what programs are used?

I’m self teaching web design/development. Just wanna know what direction to head with this.

Java has an API called the java3D api, it targets having the ability to make 3D games for the Java VM. Flash has 3D capabilities as well, mostly however you can find that flash games will simulate a 3D environment using isometric views. Most of the time people will use flash over java, this is mostly because of what the platforms were originally designed for. Although flash wasn’t meant to be a platform for games, it has roots in the multimedia sector and thus allowed an easy transition. Java was meant to be a well designed programming language, deployed on all major operating systems, making programs written in Java very portable. A game designer would definitely speed things up but if you intend on a small project, you can do it all yourself. Unless you already have 3D objects saved on your computer, you will more than likely need a 3D modeling program of some kind. Milkshape and Blender are both very good modeling programs. Hope all of this helps.
