How To Scale On Autocad

In Autocad how do you scale?

I need to scale of 1:500 horz and 1:200 vert on a long section how do i do that please?

I’m sure there are several ways to do this. Here’s my idea:

- Draw your model at regular scale.
- XRef the model into another file.
- Scale the inserted XRef in the X axis only, 200/500 (or 0.4) (For this example I’m assuming that the vertical scale will stay “normal” and the horizontal will be “distorted”; you might be required to do it the other way).
- Add annotation; for your vertical dimensions, use a DimStyle with normal scale, and for your horizontal dimensions (the “distorted” scale) use another DimStyle whose DIMLFAC variable is set to 2.5 (500/200).

There might be better solutions but at least this procedure ensures that your base model stays drawn at the correct scale, and you can always modify it easily by changing the individual axis scale factor of the inserted XRef along with the DIMLFAC of the corresponding dimension style.

I hope that helps. Good luck.
