How To Scale Model Building

how to scale model building
How long would it take to build a model of the golden gate bridge?

I have to build a 1000 times scale model of the ggb, and i have only until the week after thanksgiving to do it. I will be usiong wood, metal, and some other materials. I can put in a bout an hour of work a day. How long would it take?

If you are making a 1:1000 scale model of the bridge it wil be in the neighbourhood of 12-16 feet long from approach to approach. The two central long spans are 1280 meters each – 3/4 mile. To represent 1 span alone would take 4.2 feet.
Revising your scale to 1:5000 would reduce your model size to between 2 and 3 feet – still an impressive project – whether you have the time……
Metal work can be finicky at the best of times. A more efficient media might be sheets of styrene plastic, used in making models (architectural, trains, planes, etc.) and is available in different sizes and shapes form model hobby stores. Advice should be available there a well as to glues, methods, etc.
The two major distributors of model plastic forms are Evergreen , and Plastruct. Just do a web search.
