Sehwag lost rare feat
Virender Sehwag lost in a rare feat of scoring three out of three centuries in Test cricket when he was rejected by 293 out of Sri Lanka Muttiah Muralitharan roulette during the third here on Friday.
Resuming at 284, Sehwag was approaching the milestone in style well, but a miscue unit Muralitharan, who fumbled once before taking the catch heartbreaking.
No player in the history of the game has scored three centuries triples. Australian great Donald Bradman and legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara are the only other players with two triple tons to their names.
Sehwag triple hundred came against South Africa (319 in Chennai in 2008) and Pakistan (309 in Multan in 2004).
The India opener also became the fourth batsman in Test history to fall 290s.
New Zealander Martin Crowe was dismissed on 299 against Sri Lanka in 1991, while Sir Viv Richards of the West Indies made 291 against England in 1976.
West Indies Ramnaresh "Sarwan was also expelled in 291 against England in February of this year.
Sehwag is the largest manufacturer double century for India which has a total of six innings as his name, one more than Dravid. Tendulkar and Gavaskar have scored four double centuries each.
His scores of 200 254 others are against Pakistan (in Lahore in 2006), 201 not against Sri Lanka (in Galle in 2008) and 201 against Pakistan (in Bangalore in 2005).
Has crossed the mark of 150 runs in 12 times.
The right-hander, 31 years old, has scored 6248 runs in 72 matches with 17 centuries and half-19 in an impressive average of 52.50.
Most runs scored by Sehwag took place as a starter, a position he held for the first time in the test Lord's against England in July 2002 after starting his career as a test lower middle-order batsman in Bloemfontein against South Africa in November 2001.
