Why is a wide number of behaviors part of an IEP for a physical disability?
My son brought home a note from school saying he was referred to the school psychologist and a father who wanted to complete a "behavior rating scale BASC-2." My son is in the process to get his IEP for a renewed relationship visually impaired. My husband asked his teacher about this morning and told me that was part of his IEP. I want to know why a number of behaviors is part of an IEP at a visual impairment? Is this normal procedure for the state of North Carolina? Something does not feel right. I tried contact the school psychologist via phone and email but have not been successful. Can someone please help me?
If a behavior Evaluation is a part of an evaluation of IEP, even children with physical disabilities can work due to depression or frustration. I know because I was a child with a physical disability in the '60s when there were few resources for children with disabilities. And I know how frustrated I got because I was not able to do things that other children did. I also had a friend who was hard of hearing and she also dealt with the frustration, which in both of our cases might have gone out with temper tantrums or cast to the class or interruptions. It is a know fact that most children act in school have problems undiagnosed learning or other disabilities that are not being addressed. So it's perfectly normal for a behavioral assessment. My daughter had an even though she's received awards for good behavior, his behavior was re-evaluated again when she had only three times a year. Do not get set or supiousious about the application. It is perfectly normal request in the course of an IEP evaluation and psychological evaluation, follow-up.
